Watson, Virgil “Bud”

Virgil “Bud” Watson passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Tuesday, April 28, 2020. He was born near Rolla, Missouri on August 29, 1922.

He was married to his beloved wife Edith Watson (nee Key) on April 21, 1951 until her death in 2011. He is preceded in death by his brothers Cecil and Alfred and sisters Hazel and Rachel. Dear father of Barbara (Joe) Kellar, Candace (Mike) Exler, David (Janet) Watson, and Stanley (Tina) Watson. Cherished grandfather of Coral, Craig, Marty, Matt, Andy, David, Ben, Paul, Amanda, Jenn, Keith, Adriane, Rachel and Connor. Dear great grandfather, great great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

Bud served in the Army in World War II from December of 1942 to November of 1945 having fought on D-Day and in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for General Motors at the Chevrolet assembly plant in St. Louis for 30 years when he retired in 1977.  He and Edith raised their children in Affton and moved to Indian Hills Lake in Cuba, Missouri where they enjoyed retirement among family and friends.

Visitation and services at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton will be private. A celebration of Bud’s life including full military honors will be held later this year.

Donations to the Missouri Honor Flight are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

  3. Peaceful wishes to the family. He lived a full happy life, & sure enjoyed his family. I enjoyed knowing him for nearly 40+ years. He is once again in the happy company of Edith.

  7. Gene and I were saddened by the news of Uncle Bud’s passing. I enjoyed the time I got to spend with him, his nephews and niece-in-laws. He was such a good and gentle man. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of loss.

  15. I’m torn up about this, after missing Edith’s Lansing. I remember Bud from visits to their home in Affton with my Mom Lena and my Dad Lawrence. Glad that God gave him a long life.

    Had so much fun with all their kids, Candy, David, Stanley. . . So sorry I cant get up there.
