With deep gratitude for his life, we announce the passing of William J. “Bill” Heinemann on June 16, 2026 at age 53. Bill is survived by his loving wife Laura Heinemann, his children Aida and Archer Heinemann, his parents Patti and Greg Heinemann and his siblings Kent Heinemann and Tori Endermuhle, as well as his in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all admired and loved him.
Bill was an adorable, brave, active and precocious kid with a perpetual grin, who never met a stranger. Even as a young child, he had no fear – which led to many ER visits for his loving parents. His tough and fearless nature, combined with his strength and work ethic made him a gifted athlete and an all-state high school football player at Oakville High School, where he graduated in 1991.
After school, these characteristics – together with his strong and lifelong desire to serve others – prepared Bill well for his 20 year career as a St. Louis City Firefighter, for which his family will forever be proud. Bill was the ultimate protector – one of those rare individuals who ran toward danger if he thought he could help someone. Even when illness forced him out of firefighting, Bill continued to protect and serve in so many ways. He was there, always, for his friends and family – showing up to plow a driveway on a snowy day, offering to help with a repair, and driving a school bus until just a few weeks before his death.
Bill was a funny, engaging and curious person who was highly intelligent. He never stopped asking questions and challenging authority, always trying to get to the truth. He loved taking adventures in his Jeep, fishing, traveling, sports and, above all, his family. He always “knew a guy” who could fix whatever you needed fixed, or sell you whatever you needed to buy – and sometimes what you did not need to buy! He could communicate with literally anyone and had an “everyman” type of personality that made people trust and like him. Through a decade of chemotherapy treatments, Bill remained optimistic and almost inconceivably strong, both physically and mentally.
Words cannot describe how much Bill was loved by his devoted parents Patti and Greg, who cared for him from his first breath to his last.
Bill and Laura were married on July 26, 2008. Bill was a loving husband and friend to Laura for almost eighteen years. Their life together was built on love, trust and an unwavering loyalty.
Above all, Bill was a present, involved and dedicated father to his beautiful children Aida [Age 15] and Archer [Age 10] who he lived for. They undoubtedly were his most treasured and most important legacy. His last thoughts and concerns were always for them –wanting to protect them, even in death.
While he was taken from us far too soon, we are forever grateful for the opportunity to have loved this wonderful man.
SERVICES: Visitation will be held at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123) on Friday, June 26th from 3:00 – 6:00 PM, with the memorial service beginning at 6:00 PM.
