Preceded in death by her husband Damon Fitzwater, her parents Ted and Martha DeClue, twin sister Diane Williams, brother David DeClue. Survived by her adoring children Doug Fitzwater, Suzanne Fitzwater, Mindy (Bill) Anderson, Carrie (Ted) Wegman. Beloved Grammie and Duda to Emma (Brandon) Quillin, Caroline (Ben) Christmas, Cody Matlock, Leah Wegman, Charlotte Wegman, and Tessa Wegman. Great-Grandchildren: Logan and Izzy Quillin, and Bear Christmas. In addition, she leaves behind her dear sisters, Kate Schejbal and Martha Sue (Ken) Wilke and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Donna was born in Bonne Terre, Missouri on December 5, 1940 with her twin sister Diane.
She attended Central Methodist College earning a degree in education and meeting the love of her life, Damon. They were deeply committed to one another throughout their entire marriage. They created a life built on mutual love and respect. Together they demonstrated how two strong-minded and unique individuals could grow independently while complementing each other perfectly. She was a devout Christian who was the spiritual head of her family.
She had a sharp wit and twinkle in her eye. She welcomed anyone she met as a friend and opened her home and heart to all, especially to those in need. The extended family was always a priority and provided an ever-growing social circle. She practiced unconditional love to those around her, especially to her children and grandchildren. If there was an event to attend, Duda was there with a bright smile and a warm hug.
After staying home for many years raising her four children, she was able to transfer her love of reading to a career in library services, at Cliff Cave Library and St. Louis Community College Library. After retiring from the community college, she continued to work one day a week to stay busy and keep up with the friends she made there.
She will be dearly missed for her kindness. Although Alzheimer’s stole many of her memories, she remained the kind-hearted soul she always was and greeted all who came to see her with a smile, a hug, and an “I love you.” The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise-Webster Groves for the care they have shown Donna the last few years and Friendship Village Hospice Services for their compassionate care.
