Brewer

In Loving Memory

Brewer, Milton Clarence

Asleep in Jesus Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Beloved husband of Lois Brewer (nee Oster) for over 67 years; loving father of Cheryl (Robert) Schmidt, Curtis (Charlotte) Brewer, Karen (Kurt) Petersen, Keith (Brandi) Brewer; adoring grandfather of Melinda (Bart) Jones, Aimee (the late Ross) Kecseg, Kyle (Lauren) Petersen,  Chad Petersen, Allissa and Andrew Brewer; cherished great-grandfather of Alice and Mitchell Kramer, Sam Jones, Liam Kecseg, Shepard, Davis and Elle Petersen; dear brother of James Brewer and the late Patsy (Wallace) Sommer; dear brother-in-law of Linda (the late Harold) Steinbecker and the late Vona Koenig. Our dearest uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Milton was born in Perryville, Missouri on October 19, 1930 to the late Clarence and Elsie Brewer. He attended Perryville High School where he played football and was also in the band where he learned to play the trombone. After high school, he decided to join the Marines with a friend and served in the Korean War as an electrician. His role was to help with communications between the commanders at the front line. He later served as a Drill Sergeant in which he was greatly respected by all in his platoon.

He then met his beautiful wife, Lois, and they were soon married in July of 1955. They had four children. They started their lives together in Perryville, Missouri where he worked for Citizens Electric. After the birth of their second child, they moved to Belleville, Illinois where he worked briefly for Illinois Power. Their home of 57 years was in Kirkwood Missouri, where he worked for Kirkwood Electric. Most recently, they moved to Meramec Bluffs Senior Living and were enjoying getting to know their new neighbors and friends.

Milton enjoyed going to the American Legion for fried chicken and iced cold beers. He loved Lois’ delicious fruit cocktail and homemade cherry pies. He was a frequent visitor to any Dairy Queen for a pineapple milkshake as well as a lover of butter pecan ice cream, donuts and mostly any kind of candy. Some of his hobbies over the years included playing cards, especially Pinochle, with his best friends every New Years Eve and teaching his grandkids to play Gin Rummy. He frequently enjoyed teaching everyone a lesson or two in Monopoly and Croquet, but only if we played by “Perryville rules.” In his later years, he became an avid Chicken Foot Dominoes player. He loved nothing better than sharing a highball of bourbon and squirt with his family and friends at his downstairs bar that his Dad built for him. Milton was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Missouri since the early1960’s and had a strong Lutheran faith.

He was a known landmark in Kirkwood as he sat on his swing greeting his friends and neighbors and anybody that passed by his house. He was truly a kind soul, always laughing and making jokes. He loved to ask questions and listen about your day, your job or anything else you wanted to talk about. He loved his family and God and will be missed very much by all who
knew him.

  5. I am so saddened to hear of Milton passing away. I have lots of good memories of him and all of the family over the years which include reunions at the park in Perryville, Fourth of July fireworks in Kirkwood and many “rambunctious political discussions” with my dad, Milton and Grandpa Brewer! So many laughs and great times. We will miss him but all have the hope now of reuniting with all of our loved ones in God’s time. May God bless and comfort you now and always.

  7. Good bye Uncle Milt. I will always remember you as a nice guy who would do anything for anybody. I also loved to hear you laugh. It always reminded me of Fred Flintstone. Gone but not forgotten is your wonderful disposition which your children and grandchildren have inherited, making it easy to remember you.

  9. Have so many great and happy memories of Uncle Milton growing up. Living overseas, we would visit just about every summer while I was growing up and he always had a soda pop stashed away in the basement bar. Such a fun guy with a laugh that was contagious. He will surely be missed by all.

  11. A generous and kind gentleman. Over the last few years I enjoyed sitting on his swing, chatting and laughing. It gave me pleasure that I was able to do some property marker locating for him. Geyer and Woodbine just isn’t the same happy corner anymore. RIP, my friend.
