Mary “Meemaw” Doerr, 82, of St. Louis, MO passed away on November 4, 2017, from health complications.
Mary was born in St. Louis, MO on October 6, 1935. She attended Buder Elementary in the Hampton Village neighborhood, and still maintains friendships she made all those years ago. After grade school, she went to Southwest High School in South St. Louis where she made yet another lifetime friend, Marlene. Following high school, she started her college career at Webster University; however, she took a break from her education to start a family. Mary met Jim Doerr in the summer of 1955. The following summer the couple married and were blessed to have four children, Jim Jr., John, Mary Beth and Laura. Jim Jr.(Philadephia, PA) was married to Gretchen and had two sons Patrick and Sean (married to Mira). Later, Jim married Ginny and had Taylor, Amanda (Mimi), Aidan and Isabella. Her second son, John is married to Terri and has four daughters Amy, Melissa (married to Joel), Allison, and Kelsey. Her daughter, Mary Beth is married to Anthony DeVasto and has three daughters, Angela, Adrienne, Gracie and son, Anthony. Her youngest daughter, Laura is married to Tim Howard and has a daughter, Abigail and son, David. Mary was the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren.
Mary went back to work in 1977 when she started the Pre-School at her beloved Salem Lutheran School. She finished her college degree in 1980 with a degree in teaching. She continued her teaching career until 1990 when she retired. Nevertheless, Mary’s retirement didn’t last long. Shortly after retiring, Salem called upon her to start their assimilation program which she enjoyed immensely. Mary truly retired in 2000 to spend more time with her grandchildren who were the true joy of her life.
Mary’s mission in life was to serve others, especially her grandchildren. Mary was a loving wife, mother, Meemaw, teacher and friend. She was loved by many and also known as Mama Doerr. Mary will be missed deeply.
Mary leaves behind husband Jim, children, grandchildren, and multiple friends. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The IFOPA (International Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Assoication)
