In Loving Memory

Edgar Lloyd Lyston

son of Jessie Mae (Schultz) and Edgar Von Lyston, bother to Daisy Von was born Sept. 22, 1925 and   passed away to God’s care on November 3, 2021, at age of 96.

Ed is the loving husband of Carole (Kress) Lyston for 60 years on the next day, November 4th,  the father of Keith Lyston, O.D. and Tracy Carol Wetteroff (deceased).

Ed attended Wilkerson grade school and Southwest High School. In the fall of 1943, followed his sister into the Marines (G Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Division).  After receiving machine gun training at Camp Pendleton, Ed served in the liberation of Guam, where he was hit in the head by enemy fire; for which he would receive the Purple Heart. He was hospitalized at Pearl Harbor.  He returned home on New Year’s Eve 1945.  He remained in the reserves and was called up in connection with the Korean Conflict in 1951.  He was never shipped out, and was honorably discharged from the Marines in November 1952 with rank of Sergeant. Ed is a lifetime member of the South St. Louis Marine Corps Detachment 183. After his discharge from service , Ed attended night school classes at Washington University, for 8 years, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Years later when Ed retired, he had been employed at American Pulverizer to design machine systems for trash land-fill and recycling companies for different cities of our country.

Ed had a high school group of friends called the Ramblers.  They played bottle caps during the summer, met monthly at each other’s homes, had yearly picnics and Christmas progressive dinner parties. Ed was the last survivor of the group of 30 guys.

Ed was active in a rifle club, and a very good shooter.

Ed coached his son’s baseball team, The Kings, and daughter’s softball team, The Tigers, associated with the Affton Athletic Association.  Also, business manager for his son’s football team, The Raiders.  And was a devoted father in many other ways. Ed assisted Carole for 24 years with filling orders, for pickup at their house, of Girl Scout cookies.

Ed and Carole made many trips with friends to various places in our nation; Ed doing the driving.  They were dancers, enjoying ballroom dancing 2 to 3 times a week with many friends.

He will be truly missed for all the hugs he would give the women and for his good sense of humor.

Services:  Funeral service Mon, Nov 15, 10 a.m. at St. Lucas UCC Church. Interment St,. Lucas Cemetery. Vis 4-8 p.m. at Kutis Affton Chapel, 10151 Gravois. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, National Processing Center, PO Box 758593, Topeka, KS 66675.
