  2. As neighbors to his daughter Kim and her husband Drew I knew Jim all to briefly.
But being a former PO and federal agent we bonded almost immediately.
He was obviously a very dedicated public servant in a very difficult profession.
I was impressed with his patriotism intellect and humility which made a lasting impression on me.
His daughter reflects those same attributes to his credit.
Enjoy your heavenly rewards. Glad to have known you. Until we meet again.

  3. Jim was one of my little brother Bob’s best friends. He was also a good friend to Karleen and I. When we would visit St. Louis from what ever part of the world we were living it always included time with Jim. I cannot tell you how many cars and trucks I bought from him. The list is long and many. I remember he sold me Deb’s car and Olds Sierra while Deb was at work. We were waiting for him to bring the car to brother Bob’s house because we were about to leave for our home in Toronto. The car was for my oldest daughter who was a Freshman at Trent University. Jim brought the car to Bob’s house and while it was still running we signed the title and my daughter jumped into the driver seats and joined the caravan. In the Caravan I was driving my company vehicle, Shea was driving the Olds, and Karleen and my younger daughter were sharing driving the Toyota truck which we had bought two days before from Jim. Loaded in the bed of the truck was Jimmy’s older Honda 4wheel ATV which Jim had also sold to me at the same time as the truck. Those were some of the fond memories of Jim and his family.
The Brennan family thoughts and prayers are with the Hempen family.

  6. The Calarie family was incredibly sad to hear the news of Jim’s passing. My dad (Jack), and Jim were the best of friends, more like brothers. They shared a love of old cars, the gift of gab, and imbibing in adult beverages on occasion. They carpooled together for years, driving to work in downtown Chicago and we’d hear them retell the stories of their antics that happened during those trips. That never got old or less funny. Jim and Debbie and my Mom and Dad spent a lot of time together here in Crown Point. Mom and Dad often traveled to see Jim and Debbie once they moved back to the the St. Louis area. When Jim and my Dad were together, you could see the love and respect they had for one another. I’m sure Dad greeted Jim with a hug and a cold beer. His was a life well lived and he will be missed. Send ing our condolences to the family and friends having the privilege of knowing this honorable man.
