  9. Joe was a year ahead of me in the apprenticeship, and became a friend at that time. We both went on to become apprentice instructors, and then he went on to become apprentice coordinator before moving on to the International job. Joe was always funny, intelligent, studious and just a fun, and times goofy, guy to be around. I’ll never forget the day on a job when a scissor lift was coming down as I walked by. I saw Cupcake (Mike Riedel) standing, operating the lift, and shaking his head when he saw me. A few seconds later, as the lift came closer to the ground, there was Joe, sitting on one bucket with a book from his then college class studying for his night classes for Education. I laughed at Cupcake’s expression and to Joe, I said “Atta’ boy! Keep up the good work!” He just smiled his big smile and said, “Oh! Break time already??” To the guy we called Joe the Turd (3rd), I say thank you for all the memories and fun you gave me. May God bless your family, and keep you (and yours) in His care until you all are together again in Heaven. And… I’ll see you on the Big job. Your old buddy, Butch Butcher
