In Loving Memory

Mayer, Thomas Charles

Mayer, Thomas Charles passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Beloved son of the late Robert I. and Delores L. Mayer; beloved husband of his late wife Donna R. Mayer of 40 years; dear father of Michael (Erin) Mayer, Sara (Joseph) Steska and Scott (Katherine) Mayer; dear brother of Teresa (Stephen) Blessing, Marylou Olsen and the late Theodore Mayer; best Gramps to his 7 and soon to be 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Shelby, Charlie, Robby, Jaden, Madelyn and Grace. A wonderful uncle, brother-in-law, son-in-law and great friend to many. He was so loved and is already missed so much.

Early in life working at the zoo, he forged many lifelong friendships and met his future wife, Donna. Tom was an example to all in his devotion to Donna. Tom and Donna made it a point of emphasis in life to “enjoy every moment” in the service of others through good times and in bad. Tom graduated from UMSL. He spent most of his professional career in IT at Anhueser-Busch, which enabled him to retire at the age of 52. In retirement, he truly put his family and friends first. Tom treasured his role as “Gramps”. He had a unique bond and dedication to his grandchildren. He was in regular attendance at their sporting events and always had an adventure for them up his sleeve. Faith has always been an integral part of Tom’s life through his involvement and volunteerism in the S.M.M.A. parish. Tom has meant so much to so many, while we acknowledge the immeasurable loss, we’ll hold on to knowing how lucky we are to have had him in our lives.

Services; Visitation at Kutis South County (5255 Lemay Ferry) on Saturday 3/26 from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM then to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque for 12 PM mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

Donations to SMMA or Saint Louis Zoo Foundation will be greatly appreciated at the time of visitation.

  7. I’m so sad, don’t how to come to grips with Tom’s death. I’m so happy I had the chance to reunite with Tom over lunch recently. He was the older brother I never had as we lived two doors away from each other on Arthur Ave. Tom being two years older, asked me to come with him on his Canada fishing trip in 1975. So together the day after I graduated from St Mary’s HS Tom, Mike K, and me drove off to Canada. Tom taught me so much as probably my best friend, neighbor and almost family. As neighbors we lived and breathed sports, finding snakes and insects, and we would meet up at 6 am and ride our bikes to Willkie Park to fish for carp.

I introduced Tom to trout fishing which he ended up loving so much. We would meet at Montauk State Park many time with our families.
I’ll always cherish Tom Mayer and there is a huge hole in my heart today. I will miss him so much. ❤️‍

Thanks for a lot of great moments. It was a privilege being your friend.

  17. Tom & Donna were our neighbors for over 30 years. They tended to our circle in the cul-de-sac, as if it were their own. Always friendly & kind. Always a wave & a smile. First Donna, now joined by her husband, Tom. Lives gone too soon. God’s speed.

  29. I cherish the times that I would go out on long runs in Kirkwood with my chain of command Jeff and Tom. Tom was an athlete and gentleman whom I had the great privilege to work for. I will run with him again if only in my mind.
