Mary Alice (nee Adcock) Scherrer, 70, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born August 5, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. She is survived by her two daughters Stephanie (Nathan) Ruggles and Kathryn (Jonathan) Schlereth, her two grandchildren Owen and Carter Schlereth, her mother, Alice Jean Adcock, her two sisters Theresa Lea and Cynthia (John) Derr, her two brothers Daniel (Susan) Adcock, and Timothy (Janet) Adcock, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews,
and cousins. She is also survived by her children’s father, her former husband of 15 years, Dennis Scherrer.
She spent her formative years in the parish and school of St. Michael the Archangel where she received the sacraments of baptism, communion, reconciliation, and confirmation. Later in life she was a member of the Assumption of Mattese parish. Most recently, she was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Edwardsville, Illinois. She received her last rites prior to her passing. Mary was a graduate of Webster Groves High School. She went on to graduate from Barnes Nursing School and served as an RN at Barnes Hospital, Alexian Brothers Hospital, Delmar Gardens South, and other nursing agencies. She loved her family and friends fiercely. She enjoyed keeping in touch by talking to them on the phone and spending time with them in person. In her active years, she loved to take long walks, took dance lessons, and crocheting. An avid crocheter, she made sure to make blankets for each of her loved ones.
Visitation to be held at Kutis Funeral Home, South County, 5255 Lemay Ferry on Friday, July 7 from 4-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 am on Saturday, July 8 at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Shrewsbury, 7622 Sutherland Ave., with the interment at Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, 5239 West Florissant Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations to NAMI Southwestern Illinois www.namiswi.org , the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation www.jdrf.org, or a charity of the donors choosing are appreciated.
