Jimmie Eugene Squires, 91, of St. Louis, MO, passed away on December 18, 2023. He was born on March 11, 1932, in West Plains (Howell County), MO, to Rachel Huddleston and Frank Squires. Jimmie was raised on a farm mostly by his loving grandmother and grew up into one of the finest and kindest human beings to grace this world.
Jim served his country in the Army for eight years and served overseas in Pusan during the Korean War. He earned the Korean Service Medal Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation. In 1954, Jimmie was honorably discharged from the Army and went on to work at McDonnell Douglas and then as an electrician for Sears until his retirement.
Jim and Marjorie Laut (Maggie as he would call her), met on a blind date in 1956 when she was 17 and he 25. Her Senior Prom was one to remember when Jim asked Maggie to be his wife that evening and they were married five months later on October 20, 1956. During their 67 years of marriage, they lived life together and built a family of incredible love with their children, Jeff, Rhonda, Greg, and Jim, and became “PaPa” to 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He loved Maggie and their life together was filled with family vacations, entertaining in one of the many houses they built from the ground up, hosting holidays as the family grew and grew, the best yearly Branson trip for everyone to be together, and remaining by each other’s side until Jim went to be with Jesus.
Jim loved his family and the people in his life well because he lived a life that displayed his love for his Savior, Jesus. His joy (best joke teller around), his kindness, his devotion, and his generosity, came seemingly easy to him. He was always glad to see you and made you feel like you made him as happy as he made you.
Jim was a good man through and through and leaves a beautiful, simple legacy for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Love God, love and be devoted to your wife, love your family, and anyone else God puts in your path. He made it look easy. He will be missed terribly.
Jimmie Eugene Squires is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie; his son Jeff (Julie) Squires; his daughter Rhonda (Ken, Mike) Miller; his son Greg (Tina) Squires; his son Jim (Danna) Squires; his grandchildren Lauren Squires (Phillip), Kirstie (Majid) Mohamod, Trinity Summers, Angela (Brad) Schneider, Brandon (Jordan) Miller, Chad (Kali) Miller, David Miller, Savannah (Jesse) Sneed, Delaney Squires, Michelle Squires, Olivia Squires, Evan Squires; and his 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Rachel Huddleston and Frank Squires, and his son-in-law Mike Miller.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, from 5-7 PM at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton (10151 Gravois Rd, Saint Louis, MO 63123), with a special time for family at 4:00 PM.
