Leo G. “Gary” Stoff Jr.
August 11, 1944 – July 11, 2026
Leo G. Stoff Jr., affectionately known to all as Gary, passed away peacefully at his home in South City St. Louis on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the age of 81, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was an outgoing, hardworking man who truly never met a stranger and was deeply loved by everyone who knew him.
Gary grew up in North City St. Louis, the son of the late Leo G. Stoff Sr. and Mary (Willett) Stoff. He was a proud graduate of St. Louis University High School (SLUH) and went on to earn his degree from the SLU School of Accounting and Business. He completed his education at Notre Dame Law School, embarking on a long career as a corporate attorney. He later brought his dedication and expertise to local civic life, concluding his professional career as the Director of Elections for the City of St. Louis.
Outside of his career, Gary’s life was defined by his family, his faith, and his passions. He had a profound love for music, which found expression in his piano playing and his love for singing with his family, especially his wife. An avid sports fan, he passionately cheered for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Notre Dame football team. Gary was never seen without a cup (or pot) of coffee in his hand . Above all, Gary cherished his family and took immense joy in spoiling his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 58 years, Elizabeth (Uskiwich) Stoff, who was his teenage sweetheart. He was the devoted father of three children: Julie (Stoff) Immer and her husband Scott Immer; Leo G. Stoff III and his wife Casey Stoff; and Paula (Stoff) Dean and her husband Neil Smith.
He was the adoring grandfather of Caitlin, Makayla, and Cosette Immer; Addison Drumm and Molly Stoff; and AJ, Dechlan, and Willett Dean; as well as three step-grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, and Zoe Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Tom Stoff, and his wife Chris Stoff. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Jim Stoff.
Gary’s warmth, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the city he served so well.
