In Loving Memory

Horton, Joyce

August 15, 1937 - April 13, 2025

Joyce Horton
August 15, 1937 – April 13, 2025

Joyce Veronica Horton, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and best friend, made her grand exit from this world on April 13, 2025 with the same flair she brought to every room she entered — eyebrows on, accessories in place, and leaving behind a trail of laughter. Vivacious, funny, and endlessly entertaining, Joyce was a woman who said exactly what was on her mind — and thank goodness for that. She told it like it was, dressed like a queen, and lived like someone who knew that dessert should always come first.

Joyce was born in St. Louis, MO on August 15, 1937. She grew up in St. Louis City and eventually went into a career of bookkeeping. She married Vernon Horton in 1960, and they moved to Louisiana, MO in 1972 for Vernon’s work. She found herself back to the St. Louis area in 1984, and remained there for the rest of her life, enjoying her hobbies of travelling, reading, crocheting, playing cards, baking apple pies, and watching good TV.

She leaves behind her greatest legacy: three daughters—Moira Horton (Jack), Lesley Nebuloni (Tony), and Pam Riedmeyer (Todd), and four grandchildren—Emily Weishaupt (Robert), Nick Nebuloni (Madelyn), Nathan Collins, and Henry Riedmeyer. She also leaves behind her best friend of close to 80 years, Fay.

She now reunites with her beloved husband of 30 years, Vernon, who no doubt greeted her with a joke and a smile. She also joins her dear sister, Virginia Hoskovec, and her loving parents, Aloysius and Barbara Durand.  And of course, waiting by the pearly gates with tails wagging are the many beloved pet dogs and cats who adored her just as fiercely as she did them.

She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered. May we all raise a cup of Hawaiian coffee and a dessert fork to the incomparable Joyce Horton — a true original, and our forever trendsetter.

We will be remembering and honoring Joyce on May 17 at Our Lady of Providence Catholic Church, with a visitation with the family at 9, and a funeral mass following at 10.
