William Burrell Lee
“Blessed beyond measure. Praise be to God!”
William Burrell Lee, age 92, a devoted Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2025. A man of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and unwavering love for his family, Burrell’s legacy is one of service—to his Lord, his country, and all who knew him.
Born in the City of Saint Louis to Vergil and Grace Lee, Burrell graduated from Mehlville High School in 1950. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he began a dedicated career of over 30 years with his uncle’s firm, Whitworth Engineering, and was a proud member of the Teamsters.
Burrell was a lifelong and active member of the Baptist church community. He served over 40 years at Kingshighway Baptist Church, 40 years at Mehlville Baptist Church, and in his later years joined and worshipped at First Baptist Church of Arnold. His servant’s heart led him to many roles including deacon, Royal Ambassadors boys’ leader, choir, and active participant in the Baptist Men’s Fast-Pitch Softball League. His life was a living testimony of faith in action.
He was known in his neighborhood as “the man on the red riding mower,” always enjoying yard work and taking pride in his home. Burrell was also an avid car racing fan and loved watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball with his beloved wife of 67 years, Anita Ruth Harrison Lee.
Burrell is survived by his loving wife Anita; his two sons, Steven (Cinda) Lee and Kevin (Kathy) Lee; his cherished grandchildren Marissa, Nicholas, Shauna, and Shane and his sister, Viola Jean Schork. He was preceded in death by his siblings Ruby Eaves, Lynn Lee, and James Lee. He is also survived by in-laws Terri (Jack) Becker and Gary Harrison, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister-in-law Alice Crouch.
Burrell was a man deeply devoted to his family, always cherishing the moments spent with them. His gentle spirit, steady presence, and faithful heart will be missed more than words can express.
Services: Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Arnold, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. A procession will follow to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery for a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. A luncheon will be held afterward at First Baptist Church of Arnold.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Arnold.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
As long-time members of Kingshighway Baptist Church, we knew the Lee family and, of course, Burrell very well. Burrell’s mother was one of my childhood Sunday School teachers, along with Irene Sand. Kingshighway had some really good fast-pitch teams when Burrell was playing – won a couple of league championships.
And when I was about 10, “Mr. Lee” would tease me about having a crush on his red-headed niece Cathy Jean.
Burrell went to be with the Lord, coincidentally, on the same day as my dear mother, Pamela LaRowe (99). My deepest condolences to the Lee family in your loss, but we all know we’ll be reunited in the sweet by and by.
