KAMPER, MARVIN JOSEPH “FLAG MAN”

Marvin passed away peacefully on April 13, 2017. Born Jan. 16, 1934 to the late William B. And Wilma C. (Daniels) Kamper and brother of the late William H. Kamper. Beloved husband of almost 54 years to Margaret (Siebenmorgen) Kamper; loving father of Mary (John) McManemin, Michael (Sasha) Kamper and Michelle (Steve) Pool; adoring grandpa to Justin, Gillian and Monica McManemin and Natalie, Gretchen, and Audrey Pool. Dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Marvin worked as a meat cutter at Kroger and Schnucks for over 50 years.  He also worked hard tending bar and catering for parties. Family Holidays consisted of a “Red Meat Fest” and usually some kind of ice cream for dessert, preferably Ted Drewes. There was always an extra plate available for an unexpected guest.

Known for his patriotism, Marvin served in the Army for two years and in the active reserves for an additional six years.  Nearing his retirement, “Flag Man Marvin” began decorating the neighborhood of over 150 homes with American flags for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day. He did this for over 20 years.

Also known for his civic service, Marvin volunteered for St. Catherine Laboure Men’s Council for four years, Boy Scout Leader for eight years, St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission for 13 years, election worker for over 10 years and helping the less fortunate through the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.

Appreciated for his odd, but great sense of humor, many of his nieces and nephews called him “Uncle Fruit.”  Stories include bass carts and Muskatel shuttled back and forth between family members for weeks.

Visitation is scheduled for April 17th, 4-8pm, Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois 314-842-4458; funeral mass will be held on April 18th, 1:00pm at St. Catherine Laboure, 9740 Sappington Road

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, 1310 Papin Street, Saint Louis, MO 63103 https://svdpstlouis.org
