Barbara Ann Nooter (Knight) passed away peacefully on Saturday October 26, 2024, in Washington, Missouri. She is mourned by her children LeRoy (Joyce Rogers) Nooter, Laura (Allen) Mann, and Bruce Nooter; grandchildren Daniel (Courtney) Mann, David Mann; great grandchildren Wesley and Sadie Mann. She is preceded in death by her dear husband John Nooter and children John Nooter, James Nooter, and Karen Nooter.
Barbara (Barb) was born on November 20, 1930 in Elvins, Missouri, the second youngest of nine children born to her hardworking parents, Claude and Lillian (Govro) Knight. She was a cherished Aunt to a considerable number of nieces and nephews and a friend to many. Barbara graduated from Elvin’s High School in 1948 and was named ” Best Girl Athlete”. In particular she loved playing volleyball, softball, and basketball. She told stories about playing basketball with the neighborhood kids until it got dark and having to run home when the streetlights came on. Barb also loved working on the school newspaper with her friends at Elvins High School.
Barbara owned and operated a “hamburger joint” with her sister in Elvins and also worked at Telapik’s Grocery Store. Later, Barb worked for the local gas company as a bookkeeper. Barbara said ,” I always liked working with numbers and balancing the books was work that I enjoyed because it was like solving a puzzle.” When Barb left the gas company, they hired three people to take her place.
One Saturday night, Barb went out dancing with some girlfriends, and her future husband, John Nooter, asked her to dance. They were married in 1962, and they had a daughter, Laura and a son, Bruce. Barb had a son, LeRoy E. Montgomery, from her first marriage, and when John adopted him, LeRoy took the Nooter name. John worked for Nooter Corporation for 35 years before retiring. Sadly, John passed away in 2020 at the age of 95. Barb and John were married for 58 years. They traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Colorado and went on several Caribbean cruises, as well as many family vacations to Florida. They also enjoyed numerous camping trips with their kids over the years, as well as spending time together with family at Lake Sherwood. Barb enjoyed nothing more than talking about her two grandsons, Daniel and David and great grandchildren, Wesley and Sadie. John and Barb loved their family and getting together with them was the highlight of their lives together.
Many thanks from the family go to the staff Garden Villas South and Homestead at Hickory View for their tender, loving care of Barb in her final years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barb’s memory to St. Louis Area Food Bank, Operation Food Search, Feed My People or the Salvation Army, to honor Barbara’s wish that no child go hungry in this country.
Barbara’s visitation will be held Wednesday October 30, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kutis Funeral Home 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. St. Louis, MO 63129. Her funeral services will be held at Kutis Funeral Home on Thursday October 31, 2024, at 9:00 AM. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
