Finally Farewell
Revelations 7:10
10 And they were shouting with a great roar,
“Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne
and from the Lamb!”
Ecclesiastes 8:15
So, I commend the enjoyment of life because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.
Leon Mozart Alligood
On Wednesday, October 23rd, Leona made her final farewell from her earthly body. Affectionately known to her family and friends as Leona Y. Alligood. Born to Eddie Nelson Young (28) & Elnora B. Young (22) in Monroe County, Mississippi, in the city of Aberdeen on October 20th, 1927, as Leon (Lindsey) Mozart Young. Leon was named after her mother’s brother-in-law, Leon Dixon of Mascolwi, Oklahoma.
Leona received her formal education in the Amory, Mississippi, School District and then, at 17 years old, moved to Saint Louis, Missouri, with her sisters. She was raised by her mother’s sister, Aunt Big Helen. Leona married Mack Alligood in 1951 and gave birth to one son, Larry Alligood. Both Mack and Larry preceded her in death. Leona experienced a full life as a professional career woman, although having only one leg as an amputee due to having polo as a kid. She was busy working for the Federal Government & St. Louis Caldwell Banker. She continued her education at Saint Louis University and Tucker School of Business, where she obtained an associate degree. Leona loved the Saint Louis Cardinal Baseball Team. She could always give you the highlights of every game. Leona was a member of the Catholic Church, attending the Saint Angela Merici. As she aged, the parishioners and Ann Coppedge from the Saint Angela Merici visited every Friday. Leona enjoyed her visits. Before converting to Catholicism, she was a member of the United Methodist Church, attending Lane Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
Leona lived her entire life without limitations until she reached the age of 96. She prided herself on the power of independence. In July 2024, she became a resident of Bell Oak Skilled Nursing Community.
As the only living sibling, Leona enjoyed connecting with family and friends back in Mississippi. In her final farewell, she joins her siblings, Marion Young, aka Daddy Marion, Charles Young, General Young, aka Daddy G, Nellie Lane, and Helen Young, who was a profound sorrow in her life. Their memories and love will forever be cherished in her heart.
Leona bid farewell to the living Young family: her niece and family, Dr. D. R. Dorsey & General, nephew Mark Clay of Pasadena, California, niece Elnora Young, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Julia Young, and Vernita Young, of Aberdeen, and a host of nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Visitation at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd., 63123) on Friday, November 1st from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Don’t cry for me,
I am okay, Heaven is my home now,
And this is where I’ll stay.
Don’t cry for me
I am where I belong
I want you to be happy and try to stay strong
Don’t cry for me
It’s just my time
I hope to see you someday on the other side.
Don’t cry for me
I am not alone
The angels are with me
This is not the end
I’ll be waiting here for you when we meet again.
Farewell Auntee. We will see you on the other side. Your only grandson, Larry Alligood (Atlanta, GA) who you loved dearly, his sons Lorenzo and Isaiah Stewart, nieces Rita Coutee and Linda Torrence and great nephew Tai Coutee. (Baton Rouge, LA).
And Mr. Dorsey
Tricia, Carmie and the entire Idalia Blue’s Home Health sends our deepest condolences in the passing of Mrs. Leona. We offered care for a short period of time but her impact on us was massive. We will continue to keep the family in our prayers.
