Robert Edward Brinkmann Sr. passed away at age 83 on June 8, 2023 at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis, MO after a hard fight against multiple illnesses over the past few months.
He was born on September 9, 1939 in St. Louis, MO to John and Arline Brinkmann. He attended Bishop DuBourg High School. He was in the National Guard Reserves and then worked for Baily Farm and Frito Lay. He was married to his wife Mary (nee Bono) for 59 years. They first met when they lived a few houses down from each other in Affton. He took her for a drive in his white ’58 Chevy Impala Convertible for their first date and the rest is history. They raised two sons, he saw his grandchildren grow up, and played with his great-grandchildren. The youngest members can attest to his master skills at playing peek-a-boo.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and everything to do with the outdoors. His happy place was at the lake. He even got to go fishing in Alaska among the glaciers. He loved watching Old Western and war movies, football, and outdoor soccer. His most recent favorite thing to watch was Yellowstone. He loved reading, mostly Old Westerns and he loved sharing his coin collections with his children and grandchildren. He spent many nights going to the casino and even got to try his hand at some in Las Vegas! He was always a good sport and laughed at the crazy games he was made to play at holiday celebrations.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons Robert Jr. (Jackie) Brinkmann, Daniel (Alysia) Brinkmann; grandchildren Caitlyn (Chris) Stocker, Eric (Torie) Brinkmann, Micki (Austin) Bradley, and Ian Brinkmann; great-grandchildren Grayson Stocker and Finnegan Bradley; sister Carol Norton, and many relatives and friends.
He is proceeded in death by his parents.
Services: Kutis South County Chapel 5255 Lemay Ferry Road. Visitation will take place on Friday, June 16, from 10:00 until funeral at 12:00 PM. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arthritis Foundation appreciated.
