Dear Mary and Billy,
We deeply regret in not attending your Dad’s funeral due to the pandemic. However, we will one day ‘see’ Uncle Bill at his resting place and have a good ‘chat’ with him, Cathy, Dad and all of our loved ones. Between Uncle Bill and me, I know there is one conversation that must be included which is my age. He would ask and then chuckled at my age – 21. This endless question has always put me into smile!
Uncle Bill had always been a great uncle to me, Dan and great-uncle to my three girls. My favorite memory of him is the grass! No one, I mean nobody in your McCorry Drive neighborhood beats your Dad’s beautiful plush, green grass. This, I called him the ‘King’ of grass! I never understood why he took all the time in perfecting his grass, now I look at my grass – sighing and wishing Uncle Bill was here to ‘perfect’ my grass.
Car is another memory! In the two houses, Uncle Bill would spend endless hours fixing cars – God knows whose car?!? However, his expertise in hot rod made him renowned for his 1987 Buick Grand National car. People would constantly come to his shop to give their car a more ‘rev!’ Car is not the only ‘toy’ he would tinker but also boat and RV! I guess I can say that he was really a handyman!
Because Uncle Bill was always a family man, my girls loved and respected him as a Great-Uncle. He always expressed his love and concern about their upbringing life. Importantly, he always assured the girls go home with a smile, and that is what I loved about your Dad.
Your Mom, Cathy, was always in Uncle Bill’s life – his wife and soulmate. In fact about a year ago and out of the blue, he mentioned that he would marry Cathy all over again. I know that she is waiting for your Dad in Heaven as well as my Dad whom he was his next closest brother-in-law and best friend. The relationship between him and Dad is immeasurable! Both always had each other’s back in any situation. For example, your Dad used his expertise to help Grandpa and Dad in downsizing their Ribaudo Auto Service shop’s window to accommodate the ventilation system. What a genius!
Lastly, but not the least, I know that your Dad is in good place now with your Mom in Heaven. We all are sad to see him go, and we miss him greatly.
