      • The seamstress who made me fall in love with sewing. She taught me how to cleverly thread a needle. I think about her and reference her all the time when I talk about sewing. Hand needlework is difficult for me, but I have videos in my brain of her doing it. I’ve wanted to be as good as her. I’ve wanted to be her. Mrs Gavin was a mentor and a role model for me.

  3. My Aunt Kiki (sp? – nickname spellings have differed) was, simultaneously with my Uncle John, a gift to me and to many others: a wonderful, wonderful blessing to me and our “branch,” always making all of us Indiana cornfield urchins feel welcome and loved when we visited during those muggy St. Louis summers, when emotional energy seemed at a premium. She was a great comfort to my mom until mom went to her reward. So kind, so good. Nothing but good memories, I am enjoying them again. Thank you for everything, Aunt Alice. I hope all my cousins will accept my sincerest sympathy for her loss.
