In Loving Memory

Gielow, George T.  “Tom”

Gielow, George T.  “Tom”,  85, fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, passed Feb 16, 2022 after a brief illness.  Survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol (Przyzycki), children Mary (Mike Book), Tom (Tracy), Kate (Dan Lewandowski) and Christine (Jeff Seitz); grandchildren Maureen, Melanie, Michael, Shane, Sinjin, Curt, Karch, Kraig, Cambrie, Emily, Natalie, Jack and Nicole; beloved uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Tom graduated from DeAndreis High School in 1954 and enlisted in the US Navy.  He was honored to serve his country, and made many memories and friends while serving in Okinawa and the San Francisco Bay Area.  He returned to St. Louis and graduated from St. Louis University in 1961.  He met and married the love of his life, Carol, and then embarked on a long career as a cartographer with the NGIA (formerly known as the Defense Mapping Agency).  He continued to serve his country admirably during the Cold War and blessed his family with devoted love and care.  (As well as maps – his children will never forget the floor-to-ceiling maps of the Moon and the World that decorated the basement and by which they could mark Santa’s journey on Christmas Eve pre-Internet!)  A long time member of St. Matthias Parish, Tom served as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and devoted many hours to coaching his children on the parish sports teams.  Fishing at Bennett Springs with his children and grandchildren was a favorite pastime.  During retirement, he and Carol enjoyed many wonderful hours with their grandchildren, countless Billikens Basketball games, and trips throughout the US, Poland and France.  We will miss our dear Tom!

Services: Funeral from Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, on Thursday, February 24, 9:30 am to St. Matthias Catholic Church for 10:00 am mass. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
