Deborah Goebel

In Loving Memory

Goebel, Deborah “Vicky”

January 10, 1957 - January 26, 2026

Vicky was born on January 10, 1957, and passed into eternity on January 26, 2026 after a two-week battle with breathing difficulties. She was born in Saint Louis, MO and attended Lutheran South High School and Florissant Valley Community College. She fell in love with her husband Joel while working at County Hospital in 1979, and they were married on January 31, 1981. Throughout Joel’s medical training and career, Vicky was the consummate partner and mother to their two children – Shannon (1982) and Stacey (1988) and Simone, their transfer exchange student from Switzerland. She joined the New Apostolic Church before their wedding and was intimately involved with church fellowships, Sunday School teaching, choir, and event planning. Even through her battles with breast cancer in 2010 and leukemia in 2014, she was always upbeat and ready to do her part in the congregation. She enjoyed crafting and in recent years used this talent to make and send cards to people to in times of celebration or hardship, always thinking of others first. She loved to travel to our summer condo in Cassopolis, MI and found an equally warm and receptive church community there.

Vicky is survived by her husband Joel, her daughters Shannon (Joe) Hoffman and Stacey (Billy) Kane, grandchildren Nora, William, Clare, and Addilyn, and her sister Pamela Kuehn.

Always upbeat, never discouraged, ready to console and an undying love for the Lord will be her legacy.

A funeral service will be held on February 14, 2026, in the New Apostolic Church at 9701 MacKenzie Road, Affton, MO 63123. The family will receive visitors from 12 – 1:30 pm and the service will begin at 2 pm. The service will also be streamed on the church’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/live/0AwSetrJ8rk). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Apostolic Church Youth Fund or Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society – https://bloodcancerunited.org).

  3. We will truly miss our dear lake neighbor…our gatherings, talks, and shared laughter will live on in our memories . Her courageous fight to overcome every illness she faced, and to do it with a smile and positive outlook is an inspiration to anyone who had the privilege to know her. Our heart breaks for the love of her life, Joel. Their love for each other was always present in the care and mannerisms they showed for each other. We are certain our Lord will meet Vicky with a warm embrace and welcome her to her heavenly home. Condolence to her family and all her friends. Rest In Peace our dear friend.

  5. I will miss seeing her at her condo in Cassopolis, she loved being there in the summer. Joel we be away walking or on tennis. The love and admiration her Joel shared was a joy to experience. I will also miss those cards Vicky would send me a couple times a year. She was a lady that had a huge heart for others, she often chatted with me about her church in south bend where her and Joel attended while in Michigan. She also loved to cook. She shared a few of her recipes with me. She lived her girls and her grandchildren talked about her visits with them. She never let her illness take her joy and beautiful smile. My sincere condolences to Joel ,Shannon and Stacey hugs and orayers

  9. Vicky was the matriarch of the Goebel family. Knew Joel before he met Vicky. She added great balance to Joel and later the Goebel family when they became parents and later grandparents. Her passing leaves a sad void in a stellar family she was responsible in raising. Thoughts and prayers. Though her life was way too short Vicky leaves a great legacy. Great person. Life well lived.

  10. For welcoming my family into the Affton congregation. For recruiting me into one of the most fulfilling roles of my life, that of Sunday School Learner. For fantastic hugs and great laughs. So much gratitude for the gift of having Vicky in our lives. Gone to soon but her lights shines on.
