Gonterman, Barbara A. (nee AuBuchon)

December 2, 1936 - February 1, 2026

Barbara A. Gonterman (nee AuBuchon), fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at age 89.  Barbara was born to Frank and Catherine AuBuchon on December 2, 1936, in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Barbara is now reunited with her beloved husband Joseph W. “Bill” Gonterman, her devoted companion and partner in life, work and play; preceded in death by her sisters Virginia Ruzicka and Dorothy (Deeken) Stevens; survived by her brother Dave AuBuchon, sister Corrine Kurlandski and daughters Cathy Schweitzer (Marty d. ’14), Caryn Schmitt (Robby), Linda Blest (Alan) and Gina Mulchek (Dave).

Barbara was blessed with ten loving grandchildren, Claire Schweitzer, Paul Schweitzer (Lindsay), Ryan Schweitzer; Chris Doss; Stephanie Hindman (Brandon), Angela Brune (Peter), John Blest (Ariel), Mark Mulchek (Katie), Matt Mulchek (Stephanie) and Andy Mulchek (Erin).

What kept the light in Barbara’s life during her last years were the great-grandchildren; Audrey, Abby, Anna, Henley, Patrick, Nathan, Henry, Hazel and Crue.

Barbara enjoyed telling stories about her family and history. A dear friend to all who knew her, Barbara had a warm smile, infectious laugh, and warm heart, she will be sorely missed.

SERVICES: Visitation on Wednesday, February 11, 4pm-8pm, KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL (10151 Gravois Rd, 63123).

Funeral at Kutis Affton Chapel on Thursday, February 12, 10am.

Interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Celebrate Barbara’s life with family and friends at a luncheon following, 12pm at Lodge at Grant’s Trail, 4398 Hoffmeister Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63125

  1. So sorry Linda & all your family , At this sad time with the passing of your Mom . I remember seeing her At Peter & Anglea wedding . Prayers & hugs for all may she RIP & now she is in her new home in Heaven with a lot of loved ones gone before

    You and your loved ones are in my thoughts as you grieve the loss of your Mom. I think back to when we were kids gathering every year for Christmas … fond memories. May ALL your fond memories bring you comfort now.
