Joseph Robert Hanson, 47, departed from this world on November 20, 2023. Born on December 18 in Atchison, KS to Terry and Patti Cannon Hanson, Joe entered the world with a vibrant spirit that never dimmed.
As the middle sibling to Amy Hanson and Liz Schelmbauer (Tom), Joe naturally embraced his role as an uncle to Cannon, Craig, and Lila (Summers), as well as Stella, Riley, and Wyatt (Schelmbauer).
Joe’s journey led him from Kansas, to Rochester, NY; Alexandria, VA; Atlanta, GA; Ponte Vedra, FL; Charlotte, NC; and St. Louis, MO. A graduate of Charlotte Catholic High School in 1994 and Belmont Abbey College in 1998, Joe’s journey was marked by the lasting connections he forged.
His warm smile and kind eyes attracted friends at every turn—be it through his schooling, his career in IT staffing, or his shared love for baseball and golf. Joe had the ability to draw people together with an ease that was uniquely his own.
To honor Joe’s memory, the family will gather with friends at Most Sacred Heart Parish in Eureka, MO on Saturday, December 2, starting at 9:30 am, followed by a 10:30 am mass dedicated to celebrating his life. Following the service, all are invited to join in a luncheon to reminisce and share stories at a location to be determined.
Donations can be made in his honor to Belmont Abbey College, commemorating the special memories and relationships he had there. A private burial of his cremains will take place at Resurrection Cemetery a later date.
In his passing, Joe leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, laughter, and a genuine warmth that will forever echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched, and he will leave an indelible mark.
Heartbroken…Lifting up prayers for love, comfort and understanding. 🙏✝️❤️
Joe – I will never forget our special friendship. I will always remember our connection and talks. Thank you for always being kind, compassionate, supportive and you. I will always remember you and hope you will watch over all of us. Play some soccer with Mikey for me and the kids. Love you. Kelly
My thoughts and prayers go out to Joe’s family.
Joe was an amazing guy with a wonderfully warm heart with a great smile and laugh. He was always a joy and so much fun to be around. He will be missed and always have a special place in all our hearts ❤️ 💕💖 Magen
I always looked forward to seeing Joe at our house in High school. He was always a big part of the “gang“ that all hung out together with my daughter Kelly. He was so well liked and you could tell, meant the world to all of his friends. My heart is broken for your family and grieving along with all of Joe’s friends. Sending Love to all of you.
Go to my Son’s obit on Legacy.com. There is a posting MemoriesSection there too. As of August, ‘24, there are 68 posts. Would love to see your posts on that forum too. I go back and read them twice per week, since last November.
