Carol Kohnen

In Loving Memory

Kohnen, Carol A. (née Licavoli)

April 8, 1948 - April 11, 2025

Carol passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Beloved wife of Richard Kohnen; devoted mother of Jill (Matt) Gallardo and Doug (Steph) Kohnen; cherished grandmother of Max and Vera Gallardo; dear daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Licavoli (née Strenfel); loving sister of Joe (the late Linda) Licavoli. Our dear aunt, great-aunt, sister-in-law, cousin, and friend to many.

Carol graduated summa cum laude from Saint Louis University and was a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa and MENSA International. She began her professional journey in computer programming, later following her passion for knowledge and education by earning a Master’s degree in Library Science. She served as the school librarian at St. Joseph’s Academy and Parkway North High School, ultimately retiring as the Head of Library and Technical Services for the Parkway School District.

Carol was a dedicated advocate for civil liberties and women’s rights, a proud supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and a generous contributor to numerous charitable causes. She volunteered with the St. Louis Genealogical Society and shared her talents as Editor of the Lake Tishomingo Newsletter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to your local library in Carol’s honor.

  1. Carol Ann was a wonderful woman and so knowledgeable on so many things. She was a great mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, niece and an awesome cousin to me and the rest of her cousins. She was always willing to help wherever and whenever. I have alot of great memories of her and her family coming to the farm when we were growing up. I am so sorry her family is suffering right now. You will be missed by so many Carol. Joe, I will be praying for all of you.

  2. Dick I am sorry to hear of the passing of your wife. Sounds like she suffered a lot. My wife went through the same thing and it is sad to watch them suffer. My thoughts are with you and I will say some prayers for you and your family. She will be in heaven.
