In Loving Memory

Kottemann, Jane Frances (Weber)

Born:  April 4, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri – Passed:  May 27, 2023

Daughter of Francis A. Weber and Otilia (Korte).  Mother of Richard A. Jr. (Donna Witte); John S. (Marion Anderson); and Stephen W. (Rena Rockwell).  Grandmother of Katherine; Marcia (Andrew Schumert); Christine (Andrew Hill); Amy (Zach Williams); Lindsey (Corey Graves); Keith; Kelly Roshel Frey; Andrew John; and Jessica (Stephen Skiles).  Step-grandmother of Adam (Katie Dempsey) Anderson, Zachary Anderson and Julien Cifarelli. Great Grandmother of eleven and counting.  Preceded in death by Husband, Richard (Dick) A. Kottemann; Son, Kevin M. Kottemann; and Grandson, Kevin M. Kottemann, Jr.

During the 1930’s and into the 40’s, her family owned and operated the Wild Hunter Diary located at Keokuk & Nebraska Streets in St. Louis, along with an adjoining butcher shop, of which both she shared fond memories.  The family relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1936, where her father, Francis A. Weber, worked driving a Greyhound bus.  After returning to St. Louis around the start of WWII, the family in 1944 moved to Dallas, Texas, where her father had war-related work.  Returning once more to St. Louis in 1949, she attended Notre Dame High School, graduating in 1953.  She spent the summer of 1954 living with an aunt in Honolulu, Hawaii, a defining experience she never forgot and spoke of often.  Married to Richard (Dick) Kottemann in May 1956, she and Dick raised four sons at various St. Louis South City and South County addresses.  Den mother, soccer mom, working mom, patient mentor and frequent dispenser of first aid, she also sewed many of her own and the boy’s outfits on her trusty Singer sewing machine.  In 1977, she went back to school to earn her RN from the Meramec School of Nursing.  After graduating in 1979, she spent the next 25 years working in the nursing field in various capacities, primarily at St. Anthony’s in South County.  In 1994, she enrolled at Missouri Baptist College and went on to successfully complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  After retiring, she and Dick split their time between St. Louis and Branson, Missouri, working part-time at Silver Dollar City and embracing the country life.  Always industrious, a prolific artist, lover of gardening and yardwork, camping, hiking, biking, and crafts.  For many years she enjoyed dancing to country music line dancing.  She loved playing her piano and keyboard, instilling the love of music in her four sons.  Ever seeking new challenges, in her sixties she took up Martial Arts, earning a Brown Belt.  Beginning in the late 1960’s, the family always had a camping trailer to go on adventures.  In later years, Jane and Dick took long RVing trips out West, North, East and to Florida, seeing the USA together.  More than almost anything else, she loved to pamper her dogs.  There were always dogs in the house, along with at various times, one or more cat, fish, snake, bird, turtle, bunny, gerbil, hamster, etc.  Deeply faithful and fiercely pro-life, she was openly evangelistic and performed good works throughout her life.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane’s name to Our Lady of Guadalupe for Life.
