Markos

In Loving Memory

Makos, Petros H.

June 13, 1947 - May 28, 2026

May our loving Lord grant rest to the soul of His servant, Petros, who reposed on May 28, 2026, and receive him into His Heavenly Kingdom, where there is no pain, sorrow, or suffering.

Petros was the beloved father of Stephanie (Robert) Varner and the proud, devoted grandfather of his adored grandson, Cameron, and cherished granddaughter, Olivia Varner. He was the beloved brother of Vasilios, Eleni, Panagiotis, Georgia, Athanasias, and Kaliope. He is also survived by brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Hristos and Vasiliki, and his beloved grandmother, “Maleko.”

Petros was born in Pogoniani, Greece to a refugee family of WWII from Sopiki, Albania. When he was around three years old, the family moved to the city of Ioannina where the rest of his siblings were born. At the age of 18, the family immigrated to St. Louis, MO, where Petros began working as a server at the Chase Hotel, as did most of the immigrant men who worked at that time. He also worked as a bartender at The Tenderloin Room, and was a highly talented carpenter.

As a young Greek man in America, he was very active. He played soccer on the Greek Soccer Team alongside his brothers, Pete and Tom, and his brother-in-law, Spiro; bowled on AHEPA Chapter 54 Team; and was also known for playing poker and backgammon.

Petro’s favorite thing to do of all, was spend time with his loving daughter, Stephanie; grandson, Cameron; and granddaughter, Olivia. He was never a stranger; he had a magnetic personality and was always joking around. His big and kind smile lit up a room whenever he entered it. His free-spirited nature, laughter, and love for life will be remembered by us all.

Visitation at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church 1755 Des Peres Rd. 63131 on Tuesday, June 2 from 9:30 am. until Funeral Services at 10:30 am. Interment at St. Matthew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Town & Country are
appreciated.

Condolences
