Bernice attended William Woods University in Fulton, MO (1949 to 1951) and then transferred to the University of Missouri, where she obtained a Bachelor of Education with a minor in Fashion (1952). She continued her education at the University of Missouri and earned two master’s degrees, one in Education and another in Special Education.

Bernice’s passions included singing in her church choir, traveling, sewing, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, playing bridge, and cheering on the Mizzou football Tigers.

She had a long and fulfilling career in education that began in St. Louis, MO. After taking time to raise her family in Bridgewater Township, NJ, where she was a founding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (Somerville, NJ), she returned to Columbia, Missouri, and resumed her career in education in the mid-1970s, working until she was 73 years old. Bernice had a long career at Harrisburg Public Schools and retired as the Director of Special Education.

In retirement, Bernice dedicated her time helping with the book fair at her church, singing in the choir, playing bridge, and joyously hosting her family for holidays and Mizzou football weekends. She was a long-term resident of Meramec Bluffs (Lutheran Senior Services) in Ballwin, MO.
