Joan Schmitz (Dulle) of St. Louis, MO passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 23, 2024 in Cincinnati, OH. She was born in St. Louis on January 16, 1946 to the late Emil & Sue Dulle.
Loving wife of 52 years to Dan Schmitz and adoring mother to Jenna Schmitz. Joan was a dear sister to Jan (Neal) Leeds of West Bloomfield, MI & the late Bernard Dulle. She is also survived by 5 nieces & nephews, 10 great nieces & nephews, & 4 great great nieces & nephews.
Joan was a force. She was one of a kind with impeccable taste & style. Joan was a very strong, independent & successful woman.
Her family was her world. Joan & Dan raised a truly remarkable woman in Jenna and Joan would beam with pride when speaking of her many accomplishments. If you knew Joan, you knew Jenna.
Joan loved animals. She had many cats & dogs over the years as well as grand dogs that she cherished. She could not get enough of the Budweiser Clydesdales either, never missing an opportunity to see their majesty.
She had a group of close-knit friends for almost 50 years, who gathered to play Canasta, which ultimately became monthly catch-ups over dinner.
Joan relished her career of 40 years at AT&T. Her work ethic was unsurpassed, which was a trait she learned from her parents.
You could say shopping was her game, but then you could also say the same for cooking & watching all varieties of sports.
There will be a visitation service at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO March 23, 2024 2-4pm. A celebration of life will be held in Cincinnati, OH in early summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cincinnati Lab Rescue, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, or Hospice of Cincinnati.
I have many things to say, and I’m not able to say them because I was Joan’s hairstylist for many many years and we shared lots of memories in confidence.. One of our favorite topics to talk of was, not only Jenna but I love for our animals and the Cardinals . She was fun and she was interesting. She will be deeply missed.
I’m very sorry for your family’s loss. I enjoyed working with Joan at AT&T until her retirement. She was very proud of her family and will be missed.
One of my first memories of Joan was when Madonna was huge. “You’ve got style. That’s what all the girls say” reminds me of her, though I distinctly remember Jenna and I listening to UB40 (prior to our real life red wine experiences).
Joan was always 100% Joan: authentic, smart, sassy, and special in addition to being kind, fun, and beautiful.
Sending my love to Jenna and Dan,
Ann and the fam
Joan was a wonderful woman. Every time I saw her she was smiling and we shared a laugh or two. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Our condolences to the family.
I am proud to be a member of that close-knit group of friends for 50+ years. Joan named us the “Canasties”. We were always there for each other through good, sad and bad. Had some crazy and fun adventures over the years…..and lots of laughs. Joan was definitely one of a kind, always dressed to the nines.
My thoughts and prayers are with Dan, Jenna
and the rest of the family. RIP JOANSIE, WE LOVE YOU ❤️❤️
