  2. Back in the 80’s I met Gary Sedovic at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. I looked up to Gary as a big brother, friend, and mentor. We started the HI theater guild along with Fr. John Borcic. The guild put on these old-time melodrama dinner shows similar to the Goldenrod Riverboat shows for those who remember those days. Fr. Boric moved on and Fr. Mike Henning joined us. Gary and I produced and directed shows for several years. These were great parish events bringing together choir folks, athletic association guys, and others. It was a lot of work, but we enjoyed it.

Gary and I grew to be very good friends, one of my favorite memories was his 40th birthday when I threw his party/funeral. Sharon played along as the grieving widow, I read his will, and Fr. Borcic returned as the Fire Dept. Chaplain. Many others took part in decorating my home into a funeral parlor with a casket full of gifts. There was a lot of laughter and beer, but mostly honoring our friend.

Now, nearly another 40 years, and this time it’s real. We’ve grown apart over the years connecting occasionally. I have always treasured our friendship, taken lessons and experiences with me, and am thankful for Gary being a part of my life. Requiescat in pace.

    • Msgr Borsic used to tell me about the theater guild — I too, met Gary and Sharon at Holy Innocents. Over the years, I would see them here and there and share a smile and fond memories of HI — and it was fitting, that I ran into them again more recently when they would come to mass or craft fairs, etc at Magdalen — as they had become fond of Fr Fallon, who also spent time at Queen of All Saints. I worked at Magdalen, for both Msgr Borsic, and Fr Fallon, before I retired. The Holy Innocents memories were some of the greatest times of my life with my family, and our parish family. The Sedovics were very much a part of that, and the many other families that worked so hard there to do all we could to support HI and the school. I will miss Gary. God Bless you Sharon — all the love from the Jackson family, and our deepest condolences.

  3. Gary was a hoot and a half!! Shared so many laughs with him both on stage and off (dinner theatre guild at Holy Innocents). He was a bundle of energy and a voice to be heard! He was the kind of person folks just enjoyed being around. He had a great smile, a beautiful aura and an awesome human being. I have no doubt Sharon and the kids are heartbroken. He was a gem, and I have no doubt he was received with smiles as big as his when he arrived in heaven. Hugs to the family and to all of his friends as well.

  5. Condolences to Sharon and the entire family. I have fond memories of Gary at St. Anthony’ of Padua’s Waltz Club. He was a great skater. Anyone lucky enough to have him as a partner found it very easy to skate with him; he knew how to lead without pushing. Of course, there was also his easy-going personality and familiar laugh. I can still hear it. So sorry for your loss. He was one of the good guys.

  12. Gary is a St. Mary’s High School Alumnus – Class of 1964. On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, both past and present of St. Mary’s, we extend our most heartfelt sympathy to Gary’s family and friends.

Also know that we share in your sorrow and grieve for your loss. Special mention and offerings of condolences to Gary’s classmates and to those students, who at one time or another, were either upper classmates or under classmates of his, and who may have known him personally or “of him” as someone they passed in the hallways, shared a table with at lunchtime or maybe even participated in some of the same extra-curricular activities that Gary did from the time he enrolled as a Freshman in September of 1960 until the time he graduated as a Senior in June of 1964 – the last Senior Class to graduate from the original building that housed the original South Side Catholic High School since 1931.

Although Gary is gone from this life, his spirit has been and always will be on the Campus of St. Mary’s where, on his very first day of class, was bestowed with the eternal honor of becoming a “Son of Mary.” And just as it has been since that day, prayers will continue to be said, and daily masses will continue to be offered for him by the Brothers of Mary.

  13. As a classmate of Gary’s at St. Mary’s, 1964, I never saw him after high school. However seeing his picture here, a few fond memories came quickly back.

Sounds he lived his life the right way.

  15. Gary and I served together in the Air Force at Minot, North Dakota. He was one guy that you could always count on. He was the radar operator on duty the night we got a report of a UFO in the area. That was exciting. We both had a love for trains and the railroad which gave us a special bond. Gary and Sharon and my wife and I seemed to vacation in Montana at the same times and we were able to meet up with them for a couple of years. I’ll miss that guy.

  16. Sharon and family, please accept Matt and my deepest sympathy on Gary’s passing. Gary was always so friendly to me in the early years of our acquaintance and then later on to both Matt and me when we were all married. We will miss seeing him at the Billiken games. He had a big presence and a warm smile. Rest in peace, friend.
