In Loving Memory

Kelly, Richard Daniel “Dan”

Richard Daniel “Dan” Kelly, 64, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on July 13, 2020, following a year-long battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He passed away at his home in Barnhart, Mo., surrounded by his wife and children. Dan was preceded in death by his father Robert, mother Mary (nee Janes), and brother Steve. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Vickie (nee Loos); their children John (Katie), Anthony, and Lindsey (Austin) Laramie; granddaughters Alaina, Karigan and Norah Kelly; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

First and foremost, Dan was a follower of Christ and deeply committed to his Catholic faith. His family was his greatest source of pride and accomplishment, and he was accepting of everyone who was blessed to know him – he supported, forgave, and extended invitations and generosity with no strings attached. Dan was an innately gifted carpenter, enthusiastic fisherman, Mizzou football enthusiast, grill master, and Bud Light connoisseur. His laugh – often accompanied by tossing his head back – and his ability to express joy and concern through his eyes were trademarks of a life lived with passion.

Dan grew up in Arnold, Mo., graduating from Fox High School in 1975. He was a member of St. David’s Catholic Church, attending weekly adoration and volunteering his time and talents. He coached several youth sports teams. He worked as machinist for nearly four decades, closing out his career as a munitions mechanic at Boeing.

Dan’s visitation will be held at St. David’s Catholic Church, 2334 Tenbrook Rd. Arnold, Mo., on Friday, July 24 from 10 a.m. until the funeral mass at noon. Up to 250 people may enter the church at a time, and physical distancing and masks are required. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, 6901 MacKenzie Rd, St. Louis, Mo.  A celebration of life BBQ will be held at the Elks Lodge, 1515 Miller Rd. Imperial, Mo., starting at 3 following Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation: https://glioblastomafoundation.org/.

  7. First time we met Dan, he helped us play a practical joke on his son John. Dan was a joy to be around. Dan was always ready to lend a helping hand or do a favor. He was a gentleman and a man of faith who lived his faith. Dan was a blessing to those whose lives he touched.

  9. Vickie and family, It’s so sad to learn of Dan’s passing. I’ve known Dan 35 plus years starting with Nooter and then coming to work for IDG to take on the infamous Boeing project. Dan is a wonderful person and I will miss him dearly, you and the family have been in my prayers and will continue to be. God rest his soul.
