Betty Jean (Ferrell) Mayfield, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Scenic Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Herculaneum, MO. She was 94 years old.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lowery Ferrell and mother Maggie (Marchbanks) Ferrell, her brother George Ferrell, and her husband Roy David Mayfield.
Betty was born on June 13, 1930, in Saint Louis, MO. She enjoyed noting to others that it was a “Friday the 13th.”
She completed her high school education a semester early and entered the work force in downtown Saint Louis. She married the love of her life, Roy David “Dave” Mayfield at the age of 18 in December of 1948. They started their family in St. Louis before moving to Arnold, MO. Betty and Dave raised two daughters, Linda and Patricia.
Betty’s notable jobs included working as a secretary for 10 years at Johnston Foil and later at Fred Weber, Inc., where she was an Executive Secretary for several years. Betty enjoyed hobbies such as bowling, playing cards with friends & family, word search puzzles, crocheting, bingo, watching St. Louis Cardinals games, and attending keno tournaments with husband, Dave. And she just loved talking with people. She never knew a stranger!
Betty and Dave loved to travel throughout the years, from one end of the United States to the other and even the Caribbean. They took full advantage of their retirement to travel across country by car to take in all the sights. Their best trips were of course with their grandchildren; taking Michael across the western half of the country and taking Gregory and Michelle to multiple beaches and attraction parks across Florida. Betty and Dave also very much enjoyed having family at their “home away from home” cabin at Lake Wappapello, MO.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda (Mayfield) Nevels and husband Paul, daughter, Patricia (Mayfield) Marion and husband Bryan, along with her three grandchildren, Michael Nevels and wife Nicole, Gregory Marion and wife Keri, and Michelle (Nevels) Gagliano and husband Brian as well as four great-grandchildren, Dakota, Brooklyn, Riley, and Aylana.
Visitation will be at Kutis Funeral Home (5255 Lemay Ferry Road, Saint Louis, MO 63129) on Friday, February 14th, 10am until funeral service at 12pm. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1pm.
