Dorothy McCutchen

In Loving Memory

McCutchen, Dorothy L.

Dorothy Louise McCutchen (nee Meyer), of south St. Louis County, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

Dorothy was born on July 18, 1940, to Edgar and Meta Meyer, and she was raised on the family farm near New Wells, Missouri. She carried throughout her life the values of faith, family, hard work, and caring for others that were rooted in her upbringing.

She graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1961, beginning a long and meaningful career in nursing. Dorothy served as a registered nurse and devoted her professional life to the care of others, working in both hospital and office settings.

In 1967, Dorothy married the love of her life, Donald McCutchen. Together, they welcomed three children, Brian, Vicki, and Pamela. Dorothy stepped away from full-time nursing to devote herself to raising them and volunteering at their church and her children’s schools.

After those years at home, Dorothy re-instated her RN certification and returned to the nursing profession, serving until retirement as a mental health nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Meta Meyer, her brother, Norman Meyer, and sister-in-law, Carol Meyer.

She is survived by her beloved husband of many years, Donald McCutchen; her children, Brian (Sharon) McCutchen, Vicki (Shawn) Northrop, and Pamela (Mark) Rempe; her grandchildren, Noah McCutchen, Shelby (Adam) Northrop, Clinton Northrop, Cody Northrop, Eleana Rempe, and Ellison Rempe; her three great grandchildren; her sister, Carolyn Krejci (nee Meyer), and brother-in-law Robert Krejci; along with other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Dorothy will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to family, her life of service.

Visitation at Peace Lutheran Church, 737 Barracksview Rd. (63125), Thursday, April 23, 10:00 am until funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment at St. Trinity Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Peace Lutheran Church are appreciated.

  5. Dottie was such a beautiful spirit in life. Her loving caring nature made her a very easy person to love. Her smile was warm and welcoming that made her a stranger to no one.
Dottie already missed from this life yet I know she is busy in her new one watching out over everyone she loved. God has gained a wonderful ANGEL. Peace my friend.

  9. Dear friend Don and beloved family,

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” (Psalm 116:15)

Dottie is, and always will be, precious to us. She has been precious to her Lord and Savior Jesus these wonderful past years, and now is safely home for all eternity with our loving heavenly Father.

Don, we grieve alongside you and the family. Indeed, we mourn with all your friends at Peace and in St. Louis. We ask God to give you His comfort each day ahead.

We loved Dottie. From our early days at Peace Lutheran Church through the years after new adventures, Don and Dottie welcomed us, supported us, encouraged us, and gave their grace-filled friendship to us. She was always positive and hospitable. (We spent good hours around the table, eating and drinking!) We both have beautiful memories with you two (and the family) in your home and our “home city,” and we will treasure her love and friendship always.

More to say in the future, but we love you all. We thank God for the privilege to have been part of the journey together here on God’s good earth, and we look forward to seeing Dottie (and all of us believers in Jesus) in the glory of heaven.

  11. Dottie was more than a neighbor to us when we lived in St. Louis. She was a friend and had a special spirit about her. Our hearts are full of love and sorrow as we remember all of the time and laughter together. She was always so welcoming when we visited St. Louis from Phoenix with our unannounced visits. She would greet us with excited surprise, open arms, a beautiful smile, and cold beers. Dotti will be missed and our hearts go out to all who knew and loved her.
