Rene-Sanders

In Loving Memory

Sanders, Rene Quimby

René Diane (Quimby) Sanders passed away peacefully on August 11, surrounded by her loving family who sang her favorite hymns. She was enveloped by love, as she loved us

René was born January 4, 1958 in Kankakee, IL, to the late Rauel D. Quimby and Marion (Reinhardt) Quimby. After graduating from Affton High School in 1976 and University of Missouri -St. Louis in 1980, she was employed in Field Supervision at Edward Jones in St. Louis for 38 years.

She was a lifelong lover and supporter of music, performing on flute and, later in life, bassoon. René was an original member of the After Hours Community Band in 1986 and continued with the band until her passing, as a performer, officer, and committee head.

René was a longtime member of Episcopal Church of the Advent, filling in wherever there was a need: musician, children’s Sunday school and choir, auditor, and convention delegate. She was an officer in the Daughters of the King.

She enjoyed traveling, on cruises during her single years and later on family vacations, where her organizational skills were unparalleled. In her spare time René enjoyed reading and cross stitching or, more to the point, “collecting cross stitch projects”!

She is survived by her husband, William J. Sanders, daughter Jocelyn E. Sanders, brother Randall J. Quimby (Kathy), and nephew Randall J. Quimby II (Emily).

Visitation will be from 4-9 PM Thursday, August 25 at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123. Services will be held 11 AM Friday, August 26 at Episcopal Church of the Advent, 9373 Garber Road, Crestwood, MO 63126, with interment immediately following in the Memorial Garden. The service will be live-streamed through http://www.advent-episcopal.org

Memorials to St Louis Children’s Choir (www.slccsing.org ) or Parents as Teachers (www.parentsasteachers.org ).

Martha and I will unfortunately be unable to attend René’s visitation or services. We will be at our son Daniel’s wedding, which is the same extended weekend. We will nevertheless still be thinking of you during that time.

René was a wonderful person, and her memory is already blessing all of us.

  9. I always enjoyed Rene’s playing the bassoon in the band. I became better acquainted with her when I served on the board of AHCB. She was always organized and kept us on track following the by-laws and knowing the history of the band. She always appeared calm and gracious. Everyone admired her. She seemed dedicated to her family.

Steve and I are heartbroken for you at the loss of René. We have beautiful memories of you (Bill) and René visiting us in Seattle years ago. It was obvious you were meant for each other, and her sense of humor was delightful, definitely a match for yours.

Your holiday letters over the years have been fabulous, so full of joy and adventure. As your family grew to add Jocelyn, we could see what a fantastic mom René became and what terrific parents you were together. We know you will miss her terribly. We pray you can feel our love and support from afar during these sad days.

    Hugs and deepest condolences,
    Steve & Kathy

  39. For several years at Edward Jones, Rene worked with Matt Crowley, me, and several others on an automated supervision system for the firms 10,000 reps. She had many strengths, one of which was pointing out how certain ideas couldn’t possibly work. She kept some bad ideas from becoming reality and nurtured the really good ideas into a system that became the best in America.
I’m very sorry to hear of her death at such a young age.
Blessings on you Bill and Jocelyn.

  43. I am saddened that I do not know the Sanders family better. Like you guys, Susan and I are slightly older parents of one daughter. I’ve enjoyed Bills humor and sprit via a Facebook friendship. But from the outside (and AHCB), I remember Rene as extremely organized, but fun and probably having a similar sense of humor…As best as I can tell Jocelyn qualifies too. Please know that you have our thoughts and prayers. Rene’s support AND BASOON PLAYING will be hugely missed in AHCB.

I knew Rene all of the 27 years I worked at Edward Jones before retiring this past February. I worked on the IT side fixing or developing systems that Rene used and she did so much testing after hours over the years. She was always easy to work with and everyone knew they could depend on Rene for help since she had such a tremendous knowledge of the compliance systems. I was heartbroken to learn of her passing and wish I would have known she was ill but you are exactly right that she would not have wanted a fuss. I will always remember her dedication and willingness to help wherever she was needed. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers and I will never forget dear Rene!
